Education Ministry Announce 2020 SSCE Exam Date.
The Nigeria’s Ministry of Education has announced that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates will now commence on Monday, 17th August, 2020.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja today.
Nwajiuba said that secondary schools in the country are to reopen as from Tuesday, 4th August, 2020 for students in exit (SSCE) classes only.
He said the decision was reached after after a virtual meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education, Commissioners of Education in the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), proprietors of private schools, and Chief Executive of Examination bodies.
“It was agreed that the exit classes should resume immediately in various secondary schools after the Salah break so that they can take their WAEC examinations scheduled to commence August 17.
“The meeting also resolved that a passionate appeal be made to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and public spirited Nigerians for assistance to schools across the country to enable them fast track the preparations for safe reopening, as agreed”.
The minister added that another meeting is to be convened tomorrow between the Federal Ministry of Education and Chief Executives of examination bodies namely, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS to harmonise their examination dates, which will be conveyed to stakeholders expeditiously by the ministry.
