Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment as Graduate Assistants in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZK), Awka.
THE POST: Graduate Assistantship is a training position for graduates of Nnamdi Azikiwe University who exhibit outstanding performance and promise in academics and who wish to make a career as academics in teaching and research.
Applicants for the post of Graduate Assistant must possess a good honours degree and must have made a first class or second class upper division in their overall standing.
Usually, the candidates should have graduated in the top five (5) percent of the class and must be alumni/alumnae of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Candidates must also show evidence of discharge from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
CONDITIONS /TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The position of Graduate Assistant is a career training position within which the incumbent is under a mentor or mentors and will compulsorily register and undergo studies for a Masters degree in his/her area.
Appointment to the grade of Graduate Assistant shall normally be tenable from year to year and is renewable on favourable annual reports from the Dean of Faculty and Head of Department for two years within which the candidate is expected to obtain a Masters degree. It may however be renewed for an additional one year and no more. At this point if the candidate fails to obtain his/her Masters degree he/she will be advised to withdraw and the appointment automatically terminates. It is therefore not a tenured position.
Anybody who already possesses or is at the verge of possessing a Masters degree is not eligible to apply for Graduate Assistantship.
The placement for this position is the career entry point for Academic Staff – CONUASS 01Step 2. The remuneration is therefore N1,300,255.00 per annum (gross).
