• A total of 7,098 students will receive their first degree certificates during the 41st Convocation ceremony of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) scheduled to hold from Monday, 23rd to Saturday, 28th November, 2015.

    Speaking at the convocation media briefing, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, disclosed that 11,020 persons would be awarded various diplomas and degrees of the university during the convocation.

    He said that a total of sixty-four students bagged first class degrees as another 1,671 would graduate in second class upper division. A further 4,346 students got second class lower and 1,014 made third class with three persons getting a pass result.

    Orunwense said that the institution would also award 268 Diplomas, 541 Post Graduate Diplomas, 2, 212 Masters Degrees and 382 Doctorates.

    He said that the ceremonies would also feature the formal installation of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, as the 9th Chancellor of the institution.

    He also disclosed that honorary degrees would be conferred on two distinguished Nigerians, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase and Prof. Osato Giwa-Osagie, for their contributions to nation building.

    He added that the convocation lecture would be delivered by Prof. Atahiru Jega, a former chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
