RUGIPO Shut Down as Students Protest.
The management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), Owo, has shut the institution following a clash between students and the police in the area.
The clash was as a result of a hit-and-run incident allegedly perpetrated by a police officer on a student of the polytechnic.
Reports said that the victim, a student of Mass Communication, was knocked down with a commercial motorcyclist by a drunk policeman and was left for dead.
This led to a protest by the students to the Police station in the area which resulted in a full blown crisis as the officers on duty allegedly fired tear-gas canisters at the protesters.
Several students were injured in the melee that ensued but no life was lost.
