A total of 6,025 students were admitted into the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana during the institution’s 35th matriculation ceremony.

In his speech at the event, the Rector, Ven Ogbonnia Ibe-Enwo, said that 3,911 of the new students were granted admission in National Diploma (ND) programmes, while 2,114 students were offered admission into Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.

He enjoined the fresh students to shun cultism and all other social vices as they are not tolerated in the institution.

Ibe-Enwo warned lecturers to desist from demanding undue financial reward or sexually assaulting the students as anybody caught in the act will be punished accordingly.

The rector called on the Federal Government to review the Federal Polytechnic Act, noting that the move would revolutionalise polytechnic education and ensure the production of manpower from bachelor of technology to doctorate of technology.

He added that the institution was collaborating with the Federal University of Technology (FUTO) Owerri and the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (Umudike) Abia, to award Bachelor of Science Degrees.
