• Medical Council Commends OSUMS.

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has hailed the efforts of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Ondo State, to establish a first-class institution.

The Director of Public Relations of the university, Prince Ademola Babalola, in a statement on Wednesday, quoted the MDCN as conveying its satisfaction with the UNIMED in a March 14, 2015 letter to the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Friday Okonofua.

The MDCN, in the letter, said it was satisfied by what its team met on ground during their advisory visit to the university in December 2015.

The letter signed by the MDCN’s Registrar, Dr. A.A. Ibrahim, read, “Following the advisory visitation to you university on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 by a team from the MDCN that inspected your facilities, personnel and curriculum of study, I write to convey Council’s satisfaction with the on-going efforts at properly establishing your medical school.

“You are therefore encouraged to proceed with further developments in terms of infrastructures, personnel and relevant equipment for training of medical students.

“It is hoped that you will invite Council for the pre-clinical accreditation at the earliest possible time to avoid stagnation of students.

“Once again accept the assurances of our continued cooperation in the development of this unique medical university.”

The university on March 12, 2016 had its first matriculation ceremony with 235 students offering courses in Medicine, Anatomy, Basic Sciences, Physiology and Dentistry.
