Northwest University Renamed Yusuf Maitama Sule University.
The Kano State governor, Umar Ganduje, has approved the renaming of Northwest University to Yusuf Maitama Sule University, after the former permanent representative to the United Nations, who died this week in Cairo, Egypt.
According to the governor’s spokesperson, Salhu Tanko Yakassi, who made this known in a statement released Thursday in Kano, the decision was reached at an extraordinary meeting of the state executive council.
The one-time presidential aspirant was buried in Kano on Tuesday.
“The decision was unanimously agreed by the Executive Council during an extraordinary meeting of the council late last night to immortalise the late Danmasanin Kano Alhaji Dr Yusuf Maitama Sule due to his immense contributions to the development of Kano, Arewa and Nigeria at large,” the statement read.
