• The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Prof. Henry Edeoga, has called on the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to speed up the completion of the 522-bed hostel it is building for students of the university.

The vice chancellor, who spoke when the commission’s top officials recently went on inspection tour of the hostel, said the appeal became necessary because the students of the institution were threatening to move into the hostel, which is still receiving finishing touches.

Edeoga said the university, expecting that the hostel would be ready for hand over late last year, had admitted 6,000 students on the assumption that they would be fully accommodated.

He however gave kudos to the NDDC Managing Director, Sir Bassey Dan-Abia, for coming personally to supervise the project to facilitate its completion in the shortest possible time.
