• The Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA), has received a total of $499,726 as Project Research Grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

    The grant was awarded under the Programme for Emerging Agricultural Research Leaders (PEARL), in collaboration with the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), University of Greenwich, UK, on the Control of Cassava Viruses in Northern Nigeria.

    The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Bello Shehu Malami, made this known during a one-day International Inaugural Workshop for the Project.

    He informed the gathering that participants were drawn from five West African countries, including Togo, Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso and Cote d’ Ivoire. He added that participants from the United Kingdom, with a similar project titled: “West African Virus Epidemiology (WAVE)” for roots and tuber crops, were also in attendance.

    Prof. Malami said that stakeholders of the project included ADPs, IFAD, FADAMAIII, All Famers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Cassava Growers’ Association of Nigeria – all from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States- were represented at the event.
