• The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), during the Combined Policy Meeting held last week, adopted a new policy for admission of UTME candidates into various universities in the country.

According to the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, candidates of universities with surplus applicants for the Unified Matriculation Examinations (UTME) are reassigned to other universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities.

This policy he said will be beneficial to universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities, as this will ensure that these universities will have more candidates to admit.Professor Dibu Ojerinde JAMB Registrar

Ojerinde also stated that candidates will have a better chances for admission in the universities they are re-assigned to, contrary to situations where they would await admission in the universities of their first choices until the admission exercise closes and they forfeit admission in that session.

This policy has been implemented with immediate effect.

JAMB has not thought well before embarking on this policy. This kind of situation is possible if JAMB is responsible for accommodation, transport fare, feeding, tuition fee etc. The universities in Nigeria do not have the same facilities and even the cost of education differs. Also the universities in Nigeria do not offer the same courses. What about nearness to where your are living? I live in Ibadan and JAMB expect me to go to sokoto. How does that work? What of insurgencies in the North?
My opinion here is JAMB should not impose any institution on anybody. The universities should determine their cut off points base on the number of applicants
I do not think prof Dibu can send his son to any of the glorified secondary school called universities everywhere in Nigeria. To worsen it, private universities with low standard and chasing the money. Once you have the money you have the degrees.
      Pls think prof.

i think its a nice policy moreover i dont think jamb is imposing Any institution on anybody they re only trying to cub lack of admision rate and at least guarantee admission for every person who wrote nd passed d jamb cut off. a candidate can easily decline admission at schools they dnt like. i think acceptance of admission is discretional
