• An accreditation team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has visited the Federal Polytechnic, Idah to ascertain the level of practical coverage of their School of Engineering.

It will be recalled that NBTE recently placed a temporary ban on admission into all courses in the School of Engineering following a petition it received from a student of the institution, alleging that there was not enough practical coverage.

According to the leader of the team, Isa Sulaiman, they came to the institution to assess the laboratory facilities and to obtain other relevant data that would enable the board ascertain the veracity of the petition it received.

Sulaiman said their mandate is strictly to gather relevant information from the School of Engineering and report back to the board which will in turn peruse the data and make a conclusive pronouncement over the temporary ban placed on the school.

In his reaction, the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Matthew Akpata, expressed gratitude to NBTE fact-finding teams, saying its findings would enable the institution know the areas it needed to improve upon to ensure better teaching and learning.
