A total of 795 students graduated from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun in Delta State, on Tuesday, 14th, March, 2017, with 25 of them bagging First Class Honours.
It was the University’s first Convocation ceremony and and 10th year Anniversary. The event, which took place at the University’s Main Arena, also witnessed the installation of the Emir of Anka, Zamfara State, HRH Alhaji Attahiru Mohammad Ahmad, as the second Chancellor of the University.
In his address, the Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for appointing him to serve and for its unflinching support to the University, saying that the celebration of the day would not been possible without the support of Government and eminent persons like the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Emmanuel Sideso Abe 1.
He assured the Federal Government that he would bring his experience to bear on the running of the institution and also lend support to the Governing Council and Management in the pursuit of its core mandate of training high level manpower for the petro-driven economy of Nigeria.
In his Convocation Address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akaehomen Akii Ibhadode, said that FUPRE owed the ceremony to the remarkable contributions of its founding fathers.
Prof. Ibhadode listed some of the challenges facing FUPRE to include the absence of an Enabling Law, non-release of part of its takeoff grant and general inadequate funding.
The VC felicitated with the Honorary Degree awardees, among who were the former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubabakar; and the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Emmanuel Sideso Abe 1.
