• The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Professor Olusola Oyewole, has admonished the newly-matriculated students of the University to strive for academic excellence and be good ambassadors of the University.

He made this call during the 2014/2015 Academic Session Matriculation ceremony, held recently.

Prof. Oyewole said the University had zero tolerance for academic indiscipline, disrespect for constituted authorities, rascality, irresponsible unionism, cultism, laziness, truancy and vandalism.

He noted that FUNAAB was convinced that the pursuit of academic work flourished best under a free and peaceful environment, devoid of anti-social behaviours and other unwarranted disturbances, as the University Administration will continue to sustain and encourage students to exhibit high degree of discipline in their academic and social lives, warning that “any student who does not want to comply with acceptable norms and practices of a decent society would certainly, be met with adequate sanctions”.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, listed the infrastructural facilities in the University that would facilitate teaching and learning to include lecture theatres, hostel accommodation, ‘Nimbe Adedipe Library/ICT Services, 500-seater computer laboratory, transportation facilities, health services, sporting and recreational facilities, sporting and ‘wellness’ facilities, among others.

On Student Unionism, the Vice-Chancellor said the University will continue to encourage and support the aims and aspirations of responsive and responsible Student Unionism.  This has been continuously demonstrated by the support given to the activities of the Student Union. “It is our belief that students, through their accredited representatives, should be given the opportunity to contribute positively, particularly, on issues affecting their welfare”, he stated.
