• Federal University Gashua Gets New VC.

    The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Gashua, Yobe State, Prof. Andrew Haruna, has officially assumed office as the 2nd Vice Chancellor of the University, with a call on staff of the institution to join hands together and move the University forward.

    A statement by the University’s head of Information and Protocol Adamu Saleh, said the Vice Chancellor made the call during a Special Senate meeting held recently to officially welcome him.

    He said the task of building a strong institution is a collective responsibility that should be taken by all.

    Prof. Haruna, who commended the outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, for laying a solid foundation, promised to build on the legacies left behind by his predecessor.

    Professor Andrew Haruna, was born on 4th April, 1957 in Gar Alkaleri local government Area of Bauchi state. He had his primary and secondary schools at Bauchi and Borno states, respectively. After which he proceeded to University of Maiduguri for his degree where he graduated with B.A. (Honours), Linguistic in 1981.

    He started his academic career as Graduate Assistant at the University of Maiduguri in 1982 and rose to the rank of Assistant Lecturer between 1984 -1986, Lecturer II, 1990 -1994 Lecturer I and became a senior lecturer in 1994. He became an associate professor in 1998.

    He obtained his MA and Ph.D degrees in 1985 and 1990 respectively from the University of London. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages on 1st October 2006.

    From University of Maiduguri he moved to University of Jos in 2013, where he worked and served as the Head of Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages before he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor Federal University, Gashua in 2016.
