Vice-Chancellors Committee Concerned Over Infringement On Powers Of Governing Councils.
The Committee of Vice-Chancellors, CVC, has expressed concern over what it described as infringement by the Minister of Education, on the powers of governing councils of universities in recent appointment of vice-chancellors for 12 Federal Universities.
In a statement signed by the Secretary-General of the committee, Prof. Michael Faborode, which was released on Tuesday in Abuja, the minister also erred in the appointment of a new vice-chancellor for the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
It said that the power to appoint vice-chancellors was spelt out in the University Miscellaneous Act, therefore their sacking is illegal.
