In what appears to be a major policy somersault, the federal government may have succumbed to the sustenance of the Post Utme admission model promoted by Vice chancellors and some other stakeholders in the education sector.
The latest report coming after a meeting of Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and other stakeholders in the tertiary education sub-sector has it that the Federal ministry of education agreed to post-UTME screening being sustained provided their is not going to be another Computer Based Test (CBT).
Speaking at the end of the meeting, the Secretary-General of the Vice-Chancellors’ association, Prof. Michael Faborode, claimed the Permanent Secretary in the ministry of education, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, who was present at the meeting has no objection to screening by universities as long as it is not another CBT.
Prof. Faborode further stated that the Federal Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in the tertiary education sub-sector agreed on N2,500 as the fee for post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) screening.
It is however yet to be known, the minister of education, Adamu Adamu’s position on the latest development. The minister has always insisted on the cancellation of Post Utme which had led to JAMB releasing new admission modalities few days ago.
