• The outgoing Director-General of the National Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, NISLT, Dr Ighodalo Ijagbone, has called for the employment of qualified technologists to manage laboratories in the country.

Speaking in an interview with TheNation in Ibadan, Ijagbone, said that the certified technologists are those who studied the various options of Science Laboratory Technology in the universities and polytechnics and are registered by NISLT on graduation.

He said that qualified technologists would always preserve the laboratories better and prevent their facilities from degenerating.

Ijagbone called for the employment of three technologists per secondary school to man the Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories.

He said doing so would ensure that technologists trained in the various specialisations of SLT (physics technology, chemistry, biochemistry, geology, bio-medical technology, etc) get the right jobs and that the laboratories are well taken care of.

The NISLT boss leaves office next month after a successful two-term tenure of 10 years.
