• OAU, Uniport Governing Councils Dissolved By Federal Government.

The governing boards of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife and the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has been dissolved by the federal government.

The dissolution is as a result of the crisis that enveloped the institutions following clashes with staff and students respectively.

According to the Minister f Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, the governing councils were dissolved, pending a court verdict.

It would be recalled that the Obafemi Awolowo University had been hit by the crisis trailing the selection process of a new Vice Chancellor and the exit of the immediate past VC, Professor Bamitale Omole.

The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) at the university, Ademola Oketunde ?said the decision of the Federal Government was an indication that the Buhari Administration was totally committed to the fight against corruption.

For the staff of the institution, it was a victory for the anti-graft policy of the Buhari administration and the commitment and resilience of the staff who were never ready to settle for anything less.

In the case of UNIPORT, the council was disbanded following the violent students protest that led to the closure of the institution for weeks.
