• The National Universities Commission (NUC) is set to re-introduce the Environmental Health Science programme in the Nigerian University System (NUS) in earnest with a successful development of the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards for the programme.

The Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, stated this last Tuesday, during a courtesy visit by the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON), in his office.

Okojie stated that the Commission had identified three selected Universities, namely; Bayero University Kano, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to commence the programme at the initial stage, while other institutions would begin as they satisfied the criteria for the commencement, after a resource verification visit by the NUC.

He also disclosed that the programme would be domiciled in a department that had adequate manpower and facilities to ensure that the students were properly trained.

Prof. Okojie advised the delegation to embark on an aggressive advocacy, to sensitise and enlighten the public on its activities.
