• The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie, has stated that the commission would ensure quality assurance measures before approving the open distance learning in tertiary institutions in the country.

He made this known at a Stakeholders Forum/Open Distance Learning Workshop organized by the Centre for Open Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) of the Federal University of Technology Minna.

The NUC scribe stated that such quality assurance measures being put in place should not be seen as being rigid in approving open distance learning by the commission but a way to make universities go through the proper procedures.

Okojie said the commission must allow the laid down rules to be followed because the nation’s economy could not afford to accommodate graduates with certificates that are not credible.

He added that NUC will give approval to any university that had gone through the laid down rules and regulations.

The NUC Secretary was represented at the event by the director, Open and Distance Education of the commission, Dr. Olamide Adesina.
