• The Electoral Commission in Nigeria has officially postponed the 2015 General Elections earlier scheduled for February 14th and 28th respectively.

    Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Atahiru Jega, during a press briefing on Saturday 7th February, 2015 announced that the new dates for the elections are March 28th for Presidential and National Assembly and April 11th for Governorship and State House of Assembly.

    Jega said the shift is in the best interest of Nigeria as the security of lives and property is of paramount importance to the electoral body.

    He said the decision is majorly based on reports from security chiefs in the country following the menace of the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.

    Prof. Jega added that the six weeks window will help the electoral body to perfect the strategies towards a peaceful, free and fair elections.
