The Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, has said that the Federal Government of Nigeria was not resting on its oars in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning aimed at revamping the education sector in Nigeria.
Speaking at the Education World Forum, held in London, on 19 January, 2015, Mallam Shekarau stated that education was critical to the long-term future of Nigeria, noting that the current Administration had made funds available to tertiary institutions across all levels to cater for the needed infrastructure and facilities that would enhance teaching and learning process.
He, however, said that there were challenges relating to access, especially with the Basic Education and Quality Outcome.
The Minister said that Access and Quality were identified as key goals of the sector and national development, stressing that it was in the light of this that the Transformation Agenda of the Government had education as its core.
He said that teachers were also critical to the success of the education system, even as the quality of teachers http://buyinglevitrahere.com had fallen in the past years as a result of the challenges of attracting the best brains into the profession, adding that most teachers at the Basic Education level, took the profession as transit points while awaiting better opportunities.
Mallam Shekarau disclosed that the Federal Government was addressing the challenges of low quality of teachers by reversing the neglect of the profession and initiating engagement with stakeholders to facilitate the development of strategies to address the challenges.
He added that a National Summit for Teachers had been scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2015 and was aimed at
providing a coordinated policy to address the challenges of teachers development, recruitment and retention as well as re-positioning the teaching profession for quality education outcome.
