A gunman, suspected to be a member of the deadly Boko Haram sect, opened fire on students of the College of Administrative and Business Studies (CABS), Potiskum in Yobe state.
The attack took place around 8:00 am.
The gunman, who was caught and beaten by locals, was accompanied by a suicide bomber who detonated but only blew himself up, security sources reported.
“We came out from lectures when we saw two people at the gate. He brought out a gun and started shooting,” Musa Ahmed, a student at the College of Administrative and Business studies said.
“The suicide bomber detonated the bomb, killing himself alone, but six of students were shot by the man with the gun,” Ahmed added.
The attackers were said to be armed with Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and AK47 rifle.
Hospital source said that seven people with various degrees of gunshot injuries have been being treated at the Potiskum general hospital located just beside the attacked school.
The Police Public Relations officer Yobe State Command, Mr. Toyin Gbadegesin who confirmed the incident said the bomber killed himself in the process while injuring several others.
