The Adamawa Commissioner for Education, Mrs Kaleptapwa Farauta, has said that most schools in the area have resumed classes following improved security in northern part of the state.
Farauta told newsmen at a ministerial briefing on Tuesday in Yola that only some schools in Madagali Local Government Area were still closed due to security reasons.
The commissioner said that insurgency had taken a serious tool on education system in the state with destruction of schools and displacement of pupils.
She said the state government with the help of Federal Government and international organisations had ensured that displaced school children were enrolled for lessons while they were at the camps.
Farauta said the state government had commenced renovation of schools in Mubi starting with the Government Secondary School, Mubi, where work had reached advanced stage. She lauded the support from Universal Basic Education Commission, UNICEF and Victims Support Fund to the education sector in the state.
The commissioner urged philanthropists and other rich individuals to also contribute in enhancing education in the state. (NAN)
