President of the union, Dr. Nasir Fagge, who made this disclosure, said that that the nation’s security chiefs ought to have alerted INEC of their inability to guarantee security during the elections well ahead of time.
He expressed doubt if the six weeks extension would be enough to tackle the security issue believed to be the major reason for postponing the elections.
It will be recalled that the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Saturday announced a shift to the 2015 general elections by six weeks.
Commenting on the new development, a lecturer at the University of Lagos, Prof. Solomon Akinboye, said there was nothing wrong with the postponement of the polls’ change in dates as long as it did not affect the hand-over date.
