• The Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has inaugurated a panel to investigate the recent crises that engulfed the Federal Polytechnics in Oko, Anambra State and Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State respectively, leading to threat for a fresh industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics(ASUP).

It will be recalled that the Governing Councils of the two federal Polytechnics had suspended all union activities in their institutions, a development that led to feud between the lectures and management of the institutions.

The leadership of ASUP, however, had shelved the strike following the intervention of the minister, who described the action of the governing councils as illegal.

The lecturers had demanded for immediate revocation of the decisions by the governing councils of OkoPoly and Fed Poly Ado to suspend all union activities in the institutions and the sack of their union leaders.

The committee, which has the Director of Tertiary Education, Mrs Hindatu Abdullahi as chairman, director of audit and director of press and public relations as members, was mandated to examine some of the issues in contention between the unions and management/councils of the two institutions.
