• Akwa Ibom State School’s to Resume September 29

    The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that primary and secondary schools in the state will resume on September 29th to enable government provide sanitary kits for students and teachers for the prevention of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

    The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Atim Antai, who made the announcement on Tuesday said: “We have altered our resumption to September 29. This will enable us provide sanitary packs for students and teachers so that they can carry on their normal academic activities unhindered,”.

    State secretary, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr. Mike Ike-Ene, said even though a new date had been fixed, if the teachers are not provided with necessary health kits, they will not allow any of their members to resume work.

    According to him, the state government has not met any of the specified conditions like water; soap; hand sanitisers, and hand gloves which are crucial to their resuming academic activities.
