Kwara Shuts Substandard Schools.
The Kwara state government has closed down no fewer than eighty-eight ‘illegal’ private nursery, primary and secondary schools in the state.
According to the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development in the state, Engr Musa Yeketi, who made the disclosure while delivering his address at the 2016 Day of the National Association of Proprietors of Private School (NAPPS) in Ilorin, the schools were shut because they are not up to the approved standard.
Yeketi asked proprietors of schools still operating illegally to regularise their operation and those with substandard facilities to upgrade them or risk sanctions from government.
The commissioner who acknowledged the impact of private schools in complementing the state government’s efforts in the provision of qualitative education in the state, warned that “no school is above the law of the state”.
