• The Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Perry Calderwood has pledged to support Bayero University’s Centre for Qur’anic Studies as part of its efforts to introduce Tsangaya scholars and Qur’anic memorizers into western education system.

The High Commissioner, who made the promise during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, said that the establishment of the Centre for Qur’anic Studies (CQS) where Tsangaya Ulamas and Qur’anic memorizers would attend short courses in English, Mathematics and other social sciences, will enable the students participate in national affairs.

He said the High Commission was willing to facilitate academic linkage between BUK and any Canadian University which the university would like to go into collaboration with, saying that Canada had done a lot to encourage
Nigerians to study in their country.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed told his guest why the University established the Centre for Qur’anic Studies and spoke of the need for all to support the centre to realise its objectives.

He described the High Commissioner as a repository of knowledge on African affairs having served as diplomat in so many African countries.

The VC said that the members of the Bayero University academic community would like to benefit from such knowledge to achieve that.
