The International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) has issued travel grants to two students of the Department of Agricultural Economics, University
The students, Mr. Victor Ifedotun Aina and Miss Christiana Olawunmi Daramola, who recently completed their undergraduate programmes, applied for participation at the Conference with their undergraduate research projects.
Mr. Aina’s project, which he did jointly with two other students, Opeyemi Eyitayo Ayinde and Abraham Falola, is entitled “Effect of Price Variation on Rice Production in Nigeria (1970-2011)”. Miss Daramola, on the other hand, wrote on “Consumption and Expenditure Patterns of Plantain-Based Foods in Rural and Urban Areas of Kwara State, Nigeria: A Comparative Study”, a project she did with Opeyemi Eyitayo Ayinde.
An electronic mail sent separately to Mr. Aina and Miss Daramola by the President-elect of IAAE, Mr Will Martin, copies of which were made available to Unilorin Bulletin, told the duo, “We are pleased to inform you that your paper has been accepted for visual presentation as a Contributed Paper at the 29th Triennial Conference of the International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) in Milan, Italy from August 8-15, 2015. All submitted papers were subjected to double-blind review and subsequent scrutiny by a Track Chair expert in the subject area. With close to 1,100 submissions for the limited number of available presentations slots, it was a very intense competition”.
The travel grant, which is worth $1,437 to each student, is IAAE’s contribution towards the participants’ accommodation expenses, travel costs and subsistence allowance.
