• The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Rahamon A. Bello FAEng has flagged-off a 3-day Workshop on the Application of Nigerian University System Management Portal (NUSMAP).

    The workshop organized by the National Universities Commission in partnership with Gucci Chis Nigeria Limited began on April 3, 2013 at the Center for Information Technology and Systems, UNILAG Main Campus, Akoka.

    The Workshop featured participants drawn from eighteen other Universities, namely: National Open University of Nigeria, Lagos; Lagos State University, Ojo; Caleb University, Lagos; University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye; Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode; Babcock University of Technology, Ilishan; Covenant University, Ota; Crawford University, Igbesa; Crescent University; Mcpherson University, Ajebo; Redeemers University, Mowe; Southwestern University, Oku Owa; University of Ibadan; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho; Ajayi Crowther University, Ibadan and Lead City University, Ibadan.

    In his opening speech, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the workshop participants drawn from the Universities in the Western Zone of the country to the University. He expressed the University’s full support for the workshop, adding that it is in tandem with the e-administration policy of the University.

    Similarly, in an address delivered on his behalf by Professor Bello, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Okojie noted that the Workshop would help to stimulate the development and efficient management of Nigerian University system.

    He explained that the Nigerian University System Management Portal (NUSMAP) was an online application, designed to enable Universities in Nigeria process, share and communicate data with the Commission, other government agencies and the general public, for proper planning and management. He noted that the new system has the capacity to capture the activities of all the directorates of the Commission which include Universities Programme Accreditation, Universities Academic Standard, University System Annual Review Meeting (USARM), Universities Research and Innovation, Finance and Budget among others.

    His words, “Leveraging on the gains of the National Universities Commission’s database (NUCDB) project for Nigerian universities; there is no doubt that this initiative, NUSMAP will further vouchsafe NUC’s commitment to bringing Nigerian University System to standard in line with the 21st century realities”.

    While emphasizing the vital role of modern technology and human resources in the development of the education sector, Professor Okojie noted that the Workshop was a demonstration of the Commission’s commitment to training and re-training of personnel involved in the administration and data management of Nigerian Universities at all levels, to promote efficiency and quality planning with verifiable data.
