University of Lagos, UNILAG Admits 8,602 new students for 2015/2016 academic session.
A total of 8,602 students were admitted into the University of Lagos (UNILAG) during the 2015/2016 Academic Session Matriculation ceremony of the institution which took place on Friday, January 15, 2016.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rahamon Bello, congratulated the new students and charged them to embrace the zeal to acquire academic excellence for which the University is reputed.
The VC said, “It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2015/2016 Matriculation Ceremony of our great University, the University of First Choice and the Nations Pride. I congratulate you all and through you, your parents for being lucky to make it through the selection process which involved thousands who wish to be in your shoes as undergraduates of highly prestigious University of Lagos.
“A total of 53,935 UTME applicants and 4, 358 Direct Entry applicants began the selection process with you all. Out of that figure, 31, 955 scored 200 and above in UTME while 26, 497 sat for the Post-UTME screening at our University. Those offered provisional admission were 6,256 in the UTME category and 2,459 in the direct entry categories, making a total 8, 602.
“Today, after a thorough screening exercise, there are 6, 644 of you, representing about 11.5 per cent of the total number of UTME applicants, who have fully scaled the registration procedure”, he said.
Prof. Bello urged them to shun all vices and immoral behavior and implored them to be good ambassadors of their families, alma maters, departments, faculties and the University.
The event was witnessed by several principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Provost of College of Medicine, Prof. Abayomi Okanlawon, and Deans of Faculties.
