University of Calabar UNICAL Holds 30th Convocation Ceremony.
No fewer than 12,220 students will get their first degree certificates during the 30th Convocation ceremony of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) scheduled to hold on Saturday, 11th March, 2017.
Speaking at a pre-convocation press briefing on Thursday, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Zana Akpagu, said that twenty-two of the graduating students bagged First class degrees.
In a further breakdown of the results, Akpagu said a total of 2,408 students made Second class upper while another 5,890 got Second class lower, with a further 2,900 bagging Third class degrees and 1,000 in Pass category.
The VC said the institution would phase out pass degrees.
Prof. Akpagu added that 1,437 post-graduate student will also be graduated on the convocation day.
He said honorary doctorate degrees (honoris causa) would be awarded to three prominent Nigerians for their contribution to the socio-economic growth of the country.
Those to get the honorary degrees are Alhaji Umaru Kwabo, Sir Daniel Chukwudozie and Brig Gen Anthony Ukpo rtd.
