No fewer than 4,868 students received their first degree certificates during the Convocation ceremony of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) held on Saturday, 12th March, 2016.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Zana Akpagu, said that twelve of the graduating students bagged First Class degrees.
He said the university will offer automatic employment to all 12 first class graduates as a reward for hard work and motivation for students of the institution to attain academic excellence.
According to Akpagu, the first class graduates are among the 7,222 graduates of the University during the 2014/2015 academic session from which 4,868 graduated with first degrees, 952 with Masters degrees and 1,402 with Diplomas.
Highlight of the ceremony was the award of Ph.D. honoris causa to three individuals who had distinguished careers in the service of Cross River State and Nigeria.
They are the former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke; Senator Florence Ita-Giwa; and the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
