The University of Benin (UNIBEN) which has always portrayed herself as a springboard for national and international leaders while also promoting gender equalities and opportunities, recently sworn-in a new set of executive members of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) headed by a female, Miss Lauretta Obakpolo.
Miss Obakpolo who against all odds defeated other male contenders to emerge the second female SUG President in the university’s history has promised to fulfill all her campaign promises.
This formed the crux of her inaugural speech as president after the elected executive members were administered with oath of office under the supervision of Chief Magistrate Nosa Musoe who represented the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Cromwell Idahosa.
She said: “I’m not unaware of the promises I made during electioneering period, I’m committed to all of them. My administration would also continue with all the well-meaning projects and initiatives embarked by our predecessor”.
She climaxed her speech by assuring the students of adequate consultations before engaging in any form of dialogue with the school management.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Osasere Orumwense congratulated the newly sworn-in president for her courageous victory and promised of management’s unalloyed support towards the success of her administration.
The VC enjoined the executive members to be p?artners in progress in order to make the university more globally-competitive.
