Tai Solarin University of Education TASUED New VC Assumes Office
Professor Oluyemisi Obilade
Professor Oluyemisi Obilade has assumed duty as the new Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education.
In her maiden address titled: “TASUED in the Quest for Global Excellence: I Come as a Partner,” Obilade said she was happy to know that TASUED is blessed with a crop of seasoned lecturers and administrators.
While re-stating her commitment for a better study environment, the new VC noted “I want this community to know that I have not come as a liquidator or an undertaker, it therefore behoves on all and sundry to join hands together and work to ensure the continued existence of TASUED. It is in this wise that I come as a partner and as a friend.”
She requested the cooperation of members of staff of the University with a view to injecting shared vision and mission, total commitment, endurance, understanding and trust.
Obilade highlighted her vision for the University, which include building a world-class University with products that have global acceptability; a leader in cutting-edge research with prolific researchers publishing in A-list journals; a centre of excellence in knowledge production and dissemination and a reference point for best practices; an institution with more than adequate, stable and sustainable financial base; an institution characterised by peace, with good University governance, positive and productive interaction between the town and gown.
Welcoming the new Vice Chancellor into the University, the Deputy Chancellor, Prof. J.O. Olusanya assured the Vice Chancellor of a peaceful and conducive atmosphere on the cause of her stay at the helms of affairs of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.
Prof. O.O. Obilade, the first female Vice-Chancellor of the university, was appointed on January 9. She replaces Professor Segun Awonusi, whose sack generated controversy.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibadan zone had faulted Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state over the unilateral removal of the former VC.
ASUU, at a meeting held at Olabisi Onabanjo University, described Amosun’s action as illegal and unconstitutional, maintaining that the power to appoint and remove principal officers as contained in the university law is vested in the governing council.
