• The Yobe State Scholarship Board (YSSB) has disclosed that a total of 15,745 students benefited from the tertiary institution scholarship scheme instituted by the state government for the year 2014.

    Alhaji Ibrahim Toshia, the Executive Chairman of YSSB, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Damaturu.

    He said that the measure would enable indigenes of the state acquire the best possible knowledge, skills and training needed to play a part in moving the country forward.

    Toshia said out of 15,745 beneficiaries last year, 15,744 students were enrolled in various institutions of lea’rning in Benue, Kano, Borno and Kaduna states.

    The chairman added that other recipients were absorbed by the Nigerian Law School for which the government paid over N300 million.

    Toshia listed other beneficiaries to include 17 Ph.D, 39 Masters of Science and 40 medical students who were enrolled in universities overseas and who received N360 million.

    He said that the state government through the scholarship board had so far spent over N2 billion to settle students’ bursaries since 2007.

    Toshia said that the current administration in the state was committed to supporting students in every possible way to enable them acquire university degrees.

    He advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the “golden opportunity” provided by the state government to assist them acquire qualitative education across the globe.
