Known as PZ Cussons Chemistry Challenge, the competition is open to all SS1 and SS2 students in all public and private schools in Lagos State.
Speaking at the media launch, Chairman of PZ Cussons Foundation, Professor Emmanuel Edozien, said the free entry forms can be downloaded online from www.pzccc.com from June 3 to June 21, 2013.
“Chemistry is central to our daily lives as the basic understanding of the subject aids in the processing and manufacturing of several household products in the PZ portfolio.
“As part of our education intervention, the Board of Trustees agreed to sponsor a programme that will address the seemingly declining interest inchemistry, and science in general. We hope this will rekindle the interest of our children in the study of chemistry and find it not just stimulating but more exciting.”
The winner of the three-stage competition which would run from July to September would be rewarded with N700,000 worth of scholarship, a laptop and gold medal, while the teacher of the pupil would have N100,000 cash prize and the school would be presented with N100,000 worth of chemistry books.
The first runner-up would have N500,000 worth of scholarship, a laptop and second place medal, while the teacher would win N60,000 and a donation of chemistry book worth N50,000 would be made to the school.
The second runner-up prize include N400,000 worth of scholarship, a laptop and third place medal. The teacher would have N40,000 while the school would receive N50,000 worth of chemistry books. The third runner-up would win N300,000 worth of scholarship, a laptop and a consolation medal while the teacher would get N20,000 and the school N50,000 worth of chemistry books.
