• Katsina State Begins Clampdown On Substandard Private Schools.

The Katsina State Government has warned private school proprietors in the state to stop operating in substandard buildings or face closure.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Education, Alhaji Sagir Ibrahim, who gave the warning on Tuesday, said that the measure was necessary as some private schools were found to be operating in abandoned poultry farms.

He added that henceforth the government would close down any school operating without following rules and regulation guiding the operation of private schools in the state.

The permanent Secretary revealed that, so far, six private schools had been shut down by the quality control department of the ministry over non-compliance with laid down regulations.

Ibrahim said a team of inspectors had discovered that the schools were operating either in poultry farms, residential houses, uncompleted buildings, or near market and motor garage.

The permanent secretary said that the schools were also operating without permission, and had no clearance from ministries of health and land as stipulated by law.

According to him, the schools will remain close until their management fulfil all the conditions set by government to operate a private school.

Ibrahim added that the ministry would continue to monitor other private schools in the state, to ensure compliance to laid down regulations. (NAN)
