Water Scarcity: SAPETRO Provides Lasting Solution to NSUK
In the year 2013, two students of the Nasarawa State University Keffi were killed and the University was shut down for three months, due to students’ protest over water scarcity. Following the incident, the South Atlantic Petroleum Limited (SAPETRO) commenced the construction of a one million litre water reservoir at the University which was officially commissioned on Tuesday, 17th December, 2014.
In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, explained that the efforts of SAPETRO to support the development of many societies, including educational institutions in Nigeria is highly commendable.
He added that, “anybody who gives you water and health facilities has given you life. With this intervention by SAPETRO, the water problem of Nasarawa State University has now been solved. We thank the management of SAPETRO for this life-touching contribution.”

We are proud to be intervening in key areas where government has failed to deliver because it is part of our corporate social responsibilities to the society. Water is life and we all know that when you have good source of water, you have good source of health. SAPETRO will continue to do the best it can to support the development of this University.”
The gathering was glittered with comedy and cultural performance by students of the Department of Theatre and Cultural Studies.
In his vote of thanks, the Registrar of NSUK, Alh. Dalhatu O. Mamman expressed that: “we do not have enough words to express our gratitude to General T.Y Danjuma and the entire management of SAPETRO for this wonderful and life-touching project.
“As we all know, the university clinic, a modern and well-equipped health care centre was donated to this University in 2013 by SAPETRO.” He throws a poser stating that: “your wealth means nothing until you use such wealth to touch the lives of people in the society.”
At the end of the occasion, the VC presented a plaque of honour to Mrs Desi Danjuma, on behalf of the entire university community, to show appreciation for the intervention project.
