Giving this hint last Thursday, when he led a delegation comprising Senior Officers of the Nigerian Army and the PIC of the proposed University to interface with the Management of the National Universities Commission (NUC) on the steps taken so far to ensure its smooth commencement as a specialised Institution, the COAS stated that the University would be ready with its documents for approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) even before the memo on the University gets to the Council.
The PIC of the University had been working based on outcome of its discussions during the earlier visit of the Committee to the Commission, he stressed.
In his reaction, the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, thanked thr COAS for showing interest
not only in the Nigerian Army but for the advancement of education in the country with the proposal to establish a unique university that would cater for both the Military and the Civilian populace.
He noted that while the Navy, through the Navy Board also proposed a University that would be run as a private institution and to be known as Admiralty University, the Air Force was also embarking on a similar venture while the Nigerian Army University by its conceptualisation would be a public institution, for which the NUC was offering it assistance, as the regulator of the system.
Rasheed pledged to ensure that the University gets enlisted as a beneficiary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Intervention Programmes as soon as it commences academic activities.
