There was palpable tension at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, after a 400 level student of the institution slumped and died while playing football.
The student, identified as Fatai Morenikeji was in Chemical Engineering department.
According to eye witnesses, Fatai was playing football with friends at the field when he suddenly slumped and was rushed to the university’s clinic, where he was confirmed dead, despite all efforts to save his life.
In his reaction to the incidents, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, commiserated with the students and the parents of the deceased and immediately inaugurated an investigative panel to probe issues surrounding the incident, with a view to forestalling a future occurrence.
The VC gave the panel 72 hours to submit its report to the university authorities while he also declared a three-day mourning period.
