Candidates of the 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) took to the streets earlier today (Monday) to protest delay in issuing them with registration slips by the Joint
The protest which took place along the Makurdi International Market Road caused traffic gridlock as the protesters blocked the road chanting solidarity songs.
The aggrieved candidates accused the JAMB officials of neglecting them for hours as they await the collection of their slips which the board announced to commence today.
One of the candidates who doesn’t want his name mentioned said that he traveled all the way from Lokoja to get his slip but the officials at the JAMB office in Markudi were not forthcoming.
He said the delay in getting the slip is frustrating him as the CBT exam is scheduled to commence next week, yet he doesn’t know his centre or examination date.
The men of the Nigerian Police Force arived at the scene of the protest and dispersed the protesters with canisters of tear-gas.
Several of the candidates were also arrested and taken to the station.
