Speaking at the ceremony, which took place on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Council Chamber, Main Campus, the President/CEO of AHPAN, Mr. Adekunle Babayemi said the partnership is aimed at professionalizing the housing industry in Nigeria through the centre of excellence of housing resource that would be established in FUT, Minna to run short courses and Master’s degree programmes in housing.
Mr. Babayemi noted that the centre would provide professional training in policy development as it relate to the housing industry in Nigeria, design, materials, engineering as well as technology, adding that FUT, Minna is the flagship of the project in Nigeria.
The President/CEO revealed that AHPAN would use its vast experience in the housing sector development in United Kingdom to access funds for the Centre from African Development Bank, DFID in England while stating that the Centre would get all its partners in Ghana, Uganda, South Africa and Kenya to work on collaborative research on the housing sector.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, who was represented at the event by the DVC (Admin), Prof. Suleiman Sadiku thanked AHPAN for setting up the project in FUT, Minna and assured the firm of wide patronage based on the institution’s closeness to Abuja.
Prof. Akanji said the University has a very strong School of Environmental Technology with experts in different fields, noting that the University is now rated 6th in Nigeria, 57th in Africa and 1st in Nigeria among universities of science and technology.
The Centre when operational will offer Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) accredited training programmes, design and deliver CIH accredited post graduate housing studies and commission housing related research projects in Nigeria.
