The students Affairs Division, Federal University of Technology Akure, on Wednesday organised a one-day seminar for female students on the importance of discipline and decency.
At the occasion in Akure, the Dean, Students Affairs, Mr Kayode Alese, said the program was meant to create awareness and to put female students on their toes.
Alese, represented by the students Affairs Officer, Mr Johnson Esho, said the university wanted female students to learn the importance of protecting the ideal and sanctity of womanhood.
“We want them to know that wherever they are, they should know that what justifies a person as a responsible woman in the society is decency and discipline.
“If ladies protect the sanctity of womanhood, issues of rape, prostitution and other anti-social vices on campuses would be a things of the past.”
He said that though indecent dressing and gross indiscipline among FUTA’s female students was not pronounced, the seminar would equip the girls to spread the message to their peers in other universities.
An Assistant Registrar and Counsellor in the university, Mrs.Abiola Olusanya, said the seminar would reshape the reasoning of the students, as well as cordon off their mind from abnormal ways of doing things.
Olusanya said the students would learn how to face their studies and manage the facilities within their halls of residence.
“It is important for them to know what womanhood is all about as they develop certain features, which automatically make them attractive to the opposite sex,” she said.(NAN)
