• The late former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Prof. Albert Ilemobade has been described as a rare gift to the intellectual community, the nation and the world.

    This came from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola while reading the citation of the late don during a Special Senate Sitting held in his honour at the Senate Chamber of the Institution on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.

    Daramola said Ilemobade, an erudite Scholar, an administrator par excellence, a researcher of international repute, a courageous and amiable personality, and a man of no mean repute was a great mentor to a large percentage of FUTA Staff and several others who crossed his path.

    Chronicling the contributions of the late don to the society, he said “Ilemobade demonstrated scholarship in several areas. He was an expert consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in several areas of his expertise. Through his research work which was recognized worldwide, he was invited to several countries to train students. He successfully supervised many postgraduate students and, until his death, he was the Chairman of the inter-agency (FAO, AU, IAEA and WHO) consortium. He had several on-shore and off-shore scholarly publications to his credit.”

    Speaking further, Daramola described the late don as a good manager of human and financial resources.

    According to him, Ilemobade was able to construct the University’s magnificent senate building, the buildings that currently accommodates the Schools of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT) and Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET), the male and female students’ Hostels (Abiola and Jibowu Halls of residence) and also affected the movement from Obakekere side of the campus and flow of infrastructural development in Obanla possible.

    Speaking on Ilemobade as a community person, Daramola said “Our dear Baba Ilemobade was also a man of many parts as he not only served the gown meritoriously, but his impacts were also felt in his immediate and larger society.”

    To the family, Professor Daramola said “As mortals we commiserate with Mama Christiana Olakiitan Ilemobade, the children, the entire family, the academic community and the entire country. On behalf of the Governing Council, Staff and Students of FUTA, we say Adieu Great Academic Giants.”

    Deans and former Principal Officers of the University who were in attendance paid glowing tributes to the late Professor of Veterinary Medicine who served as the pioneer Head of Department of Animal Production and Health (APH), and also Dean, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT), FUTA.

    Responding, a family member, Mrs Tolulade Ozigbo, who appreciated FUTA for the session urged the University management and community not to abandon the family, especially the widow.

    She said “We have enjoyed the love extended to the family since he departed. We will never forget FUTA because this place is a home to us. All we want is for the Institution to stand for justice and stand by our Mama.”
