Admission into the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) for the 2017/2018 academic session will be strictly based on merit, according to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Chairman, University Admissions Committee, Professor Olatunde Arayela.
Arayela stated this at a meeting to wrap up preparations for the Post UTME Screening Exercise that will take place from the 5th to 10th October, 2017 at the university campus.
The DVC disclosed that a total number of 13,500 candidates registered for the screening while the University Senate had decided that it will admit only 3,500 candidates for the academic session.
He said the University under the leadership of Professor Joseph Fuwape has put in place all necessary measures to ensure efficient and hitch free screening exercise.
Prof. Arayela said each programme will have its own cut off mark which will be determined by its carrying capacity and only those who meet the cut-off point will be offered admission.
The FUTA official said during the policy meeting organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) involving all heads of tertiary Institutions in Nigeria and their Registrars, a Central Admission Process System (CAPS) was introduced to ensure that only qualified candidates are given admission based on merit. He said FUTA will adhere strictly to the CAPS paradigm.
Speaking on the National Universities Commission (NUC)’s decision to halt admission into management courses for Federal Universities of Technology and Agriculture, Arayela said affected students have been duly notified on the development.
He said a committee has been set up by the Committee of Vice-Chancellor (CVC) to look into the issue.
