The Students of English and Communication Studies at the Federal University, Otuoke (FUO) has unveiled the maiden edition of their departmental Newspaper called “FUO TIMES”.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony on 20th August 2015, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko extolled the efforts of the students and their lecturers in producing the Newspaper.
Prof. Aluko urged the Editorial crew to put in their best as the publication has the chance of becoming a Community Newspaper since no such publication is existing in Otuoke or its environs, while also making money from sales and patronage from advertisers.
He advised the publishers to avoid sensational headlines and always strike a balance in their reports in order not to fall below expectations regarding content.
The VC expressed optimism that FUO Times will serve as an added advantage in showcasing academic work within the department during the FUO accreditation exercise expected to take place in September 2015.
Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Philomena Ejele praised the students and their advisers for the achievement, urging them to ensure that the momentum is sustained.
Prof. Ejele urged the next set of students not to let the dream die but to keep it alive.
She also thanked the Vice Chancellor for providing the right atmosphere and extended her thanks to Dr. Osueke Desmond and others who mentored the students in making the Publication a reality.
In his remark, the Editor, Mr. Jordan Omonigbalibo said the FUO Times is a practical piece to showcase and sharpen the knowledge and skills of the students in the area of Newspaper publication in particular and Journalism in general.
