The International Foundation for Science (IFS) has awarded a Research Grant to a lecturer at the Federal
The award granted to Dr. Olunfuso Olumide Abosede of Chemical Sciences Department is to enable him conduct a research project titled “Synthesis, Characterization and Biological applications of some Metal Complexes of Microcyclic Compounds with Polypyridyl Ligands.”
Speaking to FUO Media, Dr. Abosede disclosed that the award is a first IFS Research Grant awarded after a tripartite agreement between him, Federal University Otuoke and IFS.
He further explained that FUO as the grantee’s Institution is expected to provide a laboratory-space, supervise the project and provide other facilities necessary for the project while IFS is to purchase the equipment and expendable supplies for the grantee while as the chief invigilator is expected to carry out the project according to research plan and specifications.
Dr. Abosede said the equipment to be donated by IFS is the new model UV/Visible Scanning Spectrophotometer “JASCO” V-730ST an analytical equipment used in most standard laboratories.
The equipment is unique because of its ability to scan from the range of 190-1100 Nanometre. It is also useful for fixed Wavelength Measurement and also for Scanning both in the UV and visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum.
He also stated that the project is to last for two years and will involve Researchers and Technologists from inside and outside the department.
