The Governing Council of Federal
This decision was taken by the Governing Council of the Institution after reviewing the series of disturbances by the Staff Unions that had disrupted normal academic activities over the last three years.
The Polytechnic Governing Council, at the meeting, had in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Sec.5. (1) of decree 33 of 1979,and other enabling laws establishing and governing the Management of the Polytechnic, in a unanimous decision directed the indefinite suspension of all forms of Unions (staff and students) activities forthwith.
In arriving at the decision, the Council observed that the directive was a consequence of the
I. Unbridled strike actions and violent protests by these Unions which have not made it possible to graduate any student in its full time programmes since 2012.
II. Serial infringement of the Public Service Rules.
III. Polarization of the Students’ Union as well as
IV. Polarization of Trade Unions into pro and anti-management.
The Governing Council has therefore unanimously resolved that henceforth all
Unions’ activities be suspended indefinitely.
Also, all staff who have been on strike since the beginning of the year are hereby directed to resume work immediately or latest by Monday, 9th February, 2015.
Consequently and in line with the directive of the Honourable Minister of Education that all Institutions should be in session at this period, all Full-time Students are similarly directed to resume for normal academic activities as from Monday, 9th February, 2015.
All Staff are hereby warned that failure to heed this directive is tantamount to an act of gross misconduct.
Sgd.
Sir Victor Ebomoyi
Chairman, Governing Council
6th February, 2015.
